Kevin Shea Adams is a photographer, writer and director based in Los Angeles. He has been a regular contributor to magazines VICE, PAPER, and Noisey where his stories and interviews are often accopmanied by his photo essays. A long time musician and engineer, Kevin attended UC Berkeley as a student in Philosophy but also got deeply involved in studying music and computer science which led him to pursue his MFA. During that time he studied photography with Catherine Wagner and created interactive audio/video systems while paying the bills as a retoucher. Kevin then went on to work as an adjunct professor at a music conservatory for two years before deciding to move to New York in 2009 to pursue photography and film full time. In New York he worked for Design Within Reach, launching an ongoing series of short documentaries focusing on the work of well known industrial designers. In addition to his design-oriented commercial work Kevin began contributing more to editorial outlets in New York and shooting more personal work all of which forged into his unique studio at the Pencil Factory in Brooklyn. His studio was based here until 2017 when he relocated to Hollywood, where he now lives. Kevin's dark, energetic and colorful approach at times tends to the forensic and at others to the fantastic, all while exercising a very modern and technical sensitivity. In his personal work, Kevin continues to write, produce music and explore new possibilities in digital art, filmmaking and photography.
